Which files to export from Binance, CoinDCX and ZebPay for your Indian crypto tax return

The one export that covers everything, the one that silently misses swaps and rewards, and the 31 March statement nobody downloads. A checklist per exchange.

Which files to export from Binance, CoinDCX and ZebPay for your Indian crypto tax return

A crypto tax computation is only as good as the files behind it. Every year returns go wrong not because of the law but because a trader downloaded the wrong export, or only one of the three needed. This is the list we ask every client for, exchange by exchange, for the Indian tax year 1 April to 31 March.

The four files per platform

  1. Full-year transaction history, every account (spot, convert, earn, pay, futures), from 1 April to 31 March plus the first few days of April. Not a summary.
  2. Deposits and withdrawals, so that transfers between your own wallets are not counted as sales.
  3. TDS statement for Indian exchanges, with the 1% per trade.
  4. Holdings on 31 March: a balance statement or a screenshot with the date visible. This is the anchor that proves the computation is complete.

Leave the files exactly as downloaded. Opening a CSV in Excel and saving it changes dates and strips leading zeros, and the file then no longer matches what the exchange reported to the department.

Binance

Go to Wallet, then Transaction History, then Export Transaction Records. Choose all accounts and the full range; Binance splits it into quarterly files, so you get four. This single export covers spot trades, convert, earn rewards, Binance Pay and dust conversions. Add the futures trade history separately if you traded derivatives. The "tax report" Binance offers is useful as a cross-check, never as the only file, because it applies its own cost method and can miss transfers.

CoinDCX

Download the Trade report and the Deposit and Withdrawal report for the full year, plus the TDS report. The app's yearly tax summary is a convenience; the trade report is the record.

ZebPay

The yearly statement from the web dashboard covers trades, fees and TDS in one file. Add the deposit and withdrawal history, and a 31 March balance screenshot.

WazirX, CoinSwitch, Mudrex and others

Each has a tax report or trade CSV plus a separate deposits and withdrawals list. Take both. If the exchange was offline or restructured during the year, download what exists now and keep the emails that explain the gap.

Foreign exchanges and your own wallets

Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin and similar platforms are foreign for Indian tax purposes: no TDS, and their peak and closing balances go into Schedule FA as well as Schedule VDA. Export the full trade and funding history. For MetaMask, Ledger or any self-custody wallet, note the addresses; the on-chain history is public and can be pulled from a block explorer.

Why a tax report alone fails

Exchange tax reports value swaps with their own price feed, often ignore transfers to your other accounts, and never know about last year's holdings. They produce a number, but not one you can defend. The raw exports plus the 31 March balance can be reconciled; a PDF summary cannot.

If you would rather send the files and get the computation back, that is what the Crypto Tax Pack does: Schedule VDA rows, TDS against 26AS, holdings reconciliation, in five working days. The first six months are free.

The exchange deducts on every sale, the credit shows up in a different quarter, and foreign exchanges deduct nothing at all. A working method to tie TDS to your rows.
